Club Information

The Fishing Club considers itself to be a family friendly based club, with the goal of getting the whole family to enjoy fishing.

The club is very involved in the Shoalhaven Heads community and hold fundraisers throughout the year to benefit local charities and organizations.

Our members have a wealth of knowledge which they are only too happy to share on such topics as:-

  • Catching worms on the beach and all type of fishing techniques for beach, Rock, Deep Sea, Pier, Estuary and boat fishing.
  • What baits, rods, line and tackle to use for different species of fish.
  • The club also arranges for courses during the year for obtaining General Boat &/or PWC Licences, this is for Adults/Juniors/ members and non-members.

The club also has social cook offs, this is where the men of the club get to show their individual cooking skills and levels.

We accept memberships from all over the state, as we have many visitors that come to ‘The Illawarra’ for specific events and stay to enjoy the fishing.

We hold a raffle at the Heads Hotel every Saturday Night with:

Eight (8) draws consisting of:-

  • Five (5) Meat Trays which are supplied by our local butcher – Mountain Side Meats.
  • Two (2) Prawn & Seafood Trays (over the warmer months only) supplied by Shellharbour Seafood.
  • Two (2) Breakfast Trays (over the winter months) also supplied by Mountain Side Meats.
  • One (1) Fruit and Vegetable Tray or pub voucher supplied by The Heads Hotel.

Our Membership Draw is drawn every Saturday night and jackpots by $50 each week until claimed.  (members must be financial, and on the premises to claim their prize).  Should the draw remain unclaimed when it reaches $1000.00, the draw will continue on that night until it is won.

Membership is from 1st July each year to 30th June the following year. Should members by un-financial on 1st November of the current membership period, their number will be re-issued to new members. The cut off for new membership is 31st March each year given the end of year is 30th June.

Our Weigh-ins are held in the beautiful riverside beer garden of the Heads Hotel on the second weekend in most months. There is no weigh-in in January due to Charity Day. Should the date for July weigh-in clash with the AGM,  Presentation Night and school holidays, it may be deferred. The May weigh-in is held on the first weekend due to Mothers’ Day celebrations by our members. The June weigh in weekend will need to be monitored each year due to the Regions Wine Festival and the flexibility of the public holiday date. There is an Events Calendar on the club website with all event dates listed.

On the weigh-in weekend the competition runs from 4.00 pm Friday.  From 12.00pm on the Sunday the club runs a BBQ lunch and the actual Weigh-In is at 2pm. The fishing area covers all waters, with Jervis Bay considered as Deep Sea.

There are prize for the heaviest catch, individual categories such as Deep Sea, Estuary, Beach and Rock fishing for male, female and juniors.

Point Scoring from the weigh-ins for Club Members go towards the end of the Year Trophies. Presentation Night is held in July each year after the Annual General Meeting. Members are required to fish at least 4 times in the competition year to be eligible to attend the Presentation Night.

There are social events during the year with Christmas parties for the adults and an afternoon Christmas party for the kids.

A Chocolate Wheel is also run on Weigh-In days with Sea Food Trays as the prizes.

Everyone is welcome to join us, come and enjoy the fishing and festivities. Funds raised on the day assist the fishing club to benefit local community members, local and children’s charities as well as some of the more high profile charities such as Relay for Life.
