2015 Charity Day
Sunday 4th January saw a beautiful sun rise to start the 2015 Monster Charity Day at the Heads Hotel . Everything was set up and ready to go by 10am with Ricky Lynch playing some great songs as the crowd flowed in to grab their positions for a great day .
BNS amusements had all the great rides to keep the kids amused all day and there was the Kiddies Corner run by the Heads Pre-school volunteers where the kids could get their faces painted and play games with the clowns , there was also a cake stall and a guessing comp and lucky dips .
By lunch time the Apex boys including Gareth Ward MP, were cooking up a storm for all the locals and visitors . On the Turf Co truck we had the bands set up along with the many auction items, which were all kindly donated by local businesses and local residents and members of the Heads Hotel Fishing Club .
Dougie at the outside xxxx Bar was kept busy all day with thirsty patrons keeping their fluids up in the hot conditions. Dos Enos was the next band to entertain the crowds with Joey Winkler ( from Penny and the Mystics fame ) leading the way on drums , the crowd was stoked with the mix of original and reggae and folk rock tunes .
The moment for the drawing of the winners for the major prizes was fast approaching, but alas, so too were the storms .
The winner of the Brooker boat package was Dennis Larkin form Wallgett NSW,
The winner of the Hobie kayak was local Tamara Kegg.
The Winner of the six burner BBQ was won by Brett Buttel from Kirrawee NSW
The Winner of the party pack 4th prize ( keg of beer and $200 worth of meat vouchers )was won by VMR member Daniel Longworth. Congratulations to all those winners.
Unfortunately the storm hit around 5pm so that closed down the day , and sadly our highlight act for the day, KINGDOGS and the Cats, were unable to play due to the weather , I must thank these guys for traveling from another gig in Wollongong to the Heads to play for us but the storm beat them…..bugga! Anyway lets hope we can have them back next year.
A huge thank you to all who helped put the day together and a special mention to Dave Bolt from the Heads Hotel , who has been helping organize and run the Charity day alongside of me for the past six years, Dave is leaving to join the Air force (good luck mate ).
The day could not go ahead without the support of our very generous sponsors who every year donate goods and cash for our charities .We hope that visitors to this page will take the time to view the list of sponsors (link below) and perhaps give them their business. The day raised over $18000 dollars for our charities the Apex Shack,, VMR,, NSW Rural Fire Services and Surf Lifesaving Australia.
Once again a big thank you to all our locals and visitors for your support , hope we see you all again next year
